AcademicsHealth Information TechnologyAST 2-year Degree Program Program Description & Job Opportunities Course Listings Course Descriptions Employers are seeking Health Information Technology graduates to manage the vast amount of health information for the benefit of patients, providers, and other users of clinical data. Students in this program attain the medical, technical, and healthcare management skills to operate in the most current medical facilities. HIT technicians collect, organize, analyze, and evaluate health care records according to established industry standards for use by healthcare organizations and insurance companies. Someone with the HIT degree is eligible to sit for the national certification examination to become an RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician). The job outlook is outstanding for the Health Information field. This career trains the individual to work in a variety of health care settings such as: acute care hospitals, specialty hospitals, physician offices, nursing homes, prison health facilities and ambulatory care facilities. The Health Information Technology (HIT) associate degree program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM). Upon successful completion of the HIT program, graduates are eligible to apply to take the Registered Health Information Technology (RHIT) examination. Admissions Program Requirements
InternshipAll two-year H.I.T. students are required to complete 3 mini internships totaling 400 hours which provide them with on- the-job experience and a safety net of instructors to confide in if challenges occur.
